Educational support needs in Catalonia's schools
Access to adequate accompaniment is fundamental for the child. According to information from EL PAÍS, one in three Catalan students requires educational support.
In the case of semi-private (concertats) centers, the funded support assistant hours are published each academic year in the annexes of the DOGC. This calculation is based on Annex 4, the Protocol for evaluating complementary support needs, which scores up to 81 points across four different blocks.
However, the distribution of these hours shows irregularities. The Ombudsman's report from January 2025 indicates that, despite an overall increase of 15.5% in hours, 23.2% of centers (466 out of 2,011) suffered a reduction in their allocation.
This trend persists in recent data: of 574 centers with published hours, 193 lost some between the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 academic years. The current cost of the support assistant module is 450.00 EUR per weekly hour per school year.
