Evolution of resources and allocation of childcare hours
The Ombudsman's Report from January 2025 indicates that, despite an overall increase of 15.5% in hours, 23.2% of centers (466 out of 2,011) have experienced a reduction in their allocation.
This trend is also reflected in the data from centers with published hours, where 193 out of 574 centers lost hours between the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years. The calculation of these hours is based on Annex 4 (Protocol for evaluating complementary support needs), which scores up to 81 points across four blocks.
Regarding funding, the childcare module is 450.00 EUR per weekly hour per school year. In public centers, file ED-2026-5 provides for 64,447 weekly hours starting from January 2026, with a budget of 62.63 million euros divided into 11 territorial lots.
