The situation of support assistant hours in schools
The accompaniment of children with disabilities depends directly on the allocation of support assistant hours assigned to each center. According to the dossier, the calculation of these hours is based on Annex 4, the Protocol for evaluating complementary support needs, which scores up to 81 points divided into four blocks.
Despite a global increase of 15.5% in hours, the Ombudsman's Report from January 2025 indicates that 23.2% of centers (466 out of 2,011) have suffered a reduction in their allocation. This trend is confirmed by data from centers with published hours, where 193 out of 574 centers lost hours between the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years.
The cost of the support assistant module is set at 450.00 EUR per weekly hour and school year. Regarding public centers, file ED-2026-5 provides for 64,447 weekly hours starting in January 2026, with a budget of 62.63 million euros divided into 11 territorial lots.
For families and teachers, it is important to follow the allocation calendar: the proposal from the Directorate General for Inclusive Education is made in May, the initial allocation in July, and the final one before the start of the school year. The official publication in the DOGC usually takes place between February and April. You can consult more details in the original source.
