The role of support assistants in the educational community
The accompaniment provided by support assistants is considered an essential element for the educational community, ensuring that children with disabilities have the necessary support during their school day.
However, the allocation of hours shows significant variations. According to the Ombudsman's report from January 2025, despite an overall increase of 15.5% in hours, 23.2% of centers (466 out of 2,011) saw a reduction in their allocation.
This trend is also reflected in the data from semi-private (concerted) centers, where 193 out of 574 centers with published hours lost them between the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 academic years. The calculation of these hours is based on Annex 4 (Protocol for evaluating complementary support needs), which scores up to 81 points across four blocks.
